The East in show in Milan

MILAN, April 29 – The Festival of the East took place last weekend in Milan, showcasing cultures and traditions of India, China, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Morocco, Philippines, Vietnam, Tibet, Mongolia, Nepal, Burma, Korea and Cambodia. Here is a series of photographs of the event.

The performance of Masa Daiko: taiko was used during the battles to intimidate enemies and to send commands. It continues to be used even today in the religious music of Buddhism and Shintoism.

The Cha no yu, hot water for tea, known in the West as well as tea ceremony, is a social and spiritual rite practiced in Japan, also known as Chado or Sado, Way of Tea. It is one of the most famous traditional arts zen.

Mandala, from Sanskrit words manda, literally essence, and la, that means possessing or containing. According to the Buddhist, Mandala represents the process by which the cosmos was formed from its center. Through a complex symbolism allows a sort of initiatory journey that allows you to grow inwardly.

Loy Krathong: it is the ceremony of floating lanterns. Loy means to float and krathong is a cup adorned, with flowers generally, made with a banana leaf. This festival is not strictly Buddhist but it is believed that the floating kratong bring good luck.
